With so many skincare products available, the variety of ingredients can feel overwhelming. Most are added to improve the product or carry the active ingredients that deliver results.

AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids)

Products with AHA have surged in popularity in recent years. Lotions and creams containing AHA can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, irregular pigmentation, age spots, and enlarged pores.
As for side effects, this may include sun sensitivity and mild irritation, which can be avoided by applying sunscreen every morning. You can avoid skin irritation by starting with a product with a maximum AHA concentration of 10-15%. A good piece of advice is to start by applying the product every other day and gradually work up to daily use to help your skin get used to it.
Glycolic acid is an AHA that exfoliates the skin and boosts collagen production. With prolonged use, both can increase sun sensitivity.

Beta Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic Acid)

Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, allowing it to penetrate oily pores, whereas alpha-hydroxy acids are water-soluble and act mainly on the skin’s surface.

L-ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
